Each year I like to try some sort of challenge over the summertime when the days are at their longest and I have a few days off over the Christmas break to recover. This year just to see if it was possible I gave myself the challenge of running from my place at Shelly Beach on the Central Coast to the Telligence office at East Mayfield in Newcastle

That's a top effort, Melissa! How you find your way through unfamiliar bush in the middle of the night amazes me! Awesome is an overused word, but your adventure is truly worthy! Well done.

This week has been dedicated to recovery. Lots and lots of recovery....

The first couple of days all I did was walk at lunchtime, just stretching out the legs and drinking copious amounts of water. Particularly on Sunday I just couldn't get enough water. It was also a good opportunity to catch up on

Going into GNW I honestly didn’t know how far I’d make it. I’d ended up limping after 2 training runs a couple of weeks before the race and my right leg still wasn’t feeling 100%. So my race plan was “Do or Die”. If my niggles were going to flair up, it would happen before Checkpoint 1 (28kms).

Another heavy day of training, not much spare time and a broken skateboard

Training

This morning it's hill repeats. Matt gives me all sorts of different hill repeats to do and today is a new one. From the bottom of the ramp at Bateau Bay to the top of Reserve Drive (where it makes the right hand

An early start to get in the required Km's. Followed by the regular Wendesday night trivia outing.

Training

This morning it's a longish run, easy pace, but more then the usual K's so I need to get up earlier then normal and be out the door at 4:30am. There was no set location for the 17km's, so I decided to

Tuesday is a proper training day, with lots of running

Training

The morning starts with an easy 10km run to the tower at Cromarty & back. Technically this is closer to 11kms, but I count it as the 10k run. This is my favourite run and a pretty standard one I'll do a few times a week. Sometimes easy pace, sometimes faster.

I'm doing a week of my life as a blog as I start training for the GNW 100 miler which is in September. This is my first week of dedicated training, it was meant to start last week but after running a PW in the Trotters Handicap Time Trial and then a terrible low HR session, I was told to have a week off and start training next week.

I ran Glow Worm Trail Marathon last year for the first time and absolutely loved it. The race, the location, the glow worm tunnel…. The whole thing. So this year I HAD to go back to have another go at it.

The North Face 100 is Australia’s premier 100km trail running event. It’s by far the largest trail run I’ve participated in and the setup, operation, course marking and everything else involved was top notch. There was no mucking around here, the instructions alone (before you even get on the course) are 32 pages. This is a very
